Why Did I Choose Facebook?

Note: The Original title is this: “Where did Friendster and Multiply fail vs. Facebook?” More direct but it’s way too long.

Out of 30 people I asked 23 of them agreed that Friendster and Multiply failed because of this OPTION… “Who’s Viewed Me?”.

This feature somehow invades privacy of the viewers and disappoints them in viewing wall posts. A number of people may say that this option is excellent especially if you wanted to know who’s stalking you. In the first place I’m wondering why are you so suspicious or wary about who’s stalking you, well if you so paranoid about it then just don’t post anything online at all, might as well don’t create a Social Networking Account, because Social Networking was created in order for you to share display and express your emotion your experience though passage or normally through pictures.

That’s why Facebook manages to outrun these two famous Social Networking sites, because FB gives you the freedom to view posts without exposing yourself. Let me put yourself on this situation: you’re looking at a vacation picture of your friend because you wanted to know what’s she’s up to, or maybe you’re curious about how the place she’s at looks like? (With no malicious intent). Then in some way that friend of yours have the option to know that you are viewing that particular picture at that particular date and time. Here’s the actuality, somehow that option creates misinterpretation on the other party, in reality she might think that you are tracking her, or maybe you are interested on her, and some pessimistic thoughts could be develop even though the truth is that you have an honest to goodness purpose in viewing her post, or vice versa, you could be apprehensive in thinking what her judgment about the fact that she knew that you looked at her picture.

As a viewer you wanted that privacy of keeping what you’re at because you have your own personal reason in doing such thing, but instead Friendster and Multiply exposes you on what you did, would you happen to be fond of that? Maybe as a user, all you need is some demographics on how many views you have and which locations but to know who these people are, that’s too much invasion, that’s too personal to be given away. Trust me, even you yourself don’t want to present to anyone who you are viewing and what.

In conclusion. Facebook increased more members today than the other Social Networking sites not because they have something on them, ironically Facebook won the battle because of something that they don’t have.

Here’s the current Social networking statistics, 600 million people visit Facebook each month, and that half come back every day. Read more on Business Insider.
