Without further a do, today, since it’s my first broadcast. I would like to talk about Social Networking.
Is it good for us as a person or we’ll pay for the consequence in next to no time?
What’s this social networking by the way?, well if you have Facebook, Youtube, My Space, Blogs, Twitter etc… that my friend is Social Networking.
What are the pros and cons?
The good thing about social networking is that you’ll have a lot of friends or lets just call them contacts I might say because that’s what they really are, most of the people around your network is actually not your friend at all, in fact many friendships as far as I discovered have been destroyed through this so called Social Networking, but we’ll talk about that later.
First we need to discuss about the benefits of Social Networking. If you’re lonely and you don’t have a friend, that would not be a problem anymore, just Sign-up on Social Networking sites and before the sun sets, you’ll have what they call “friends”. As easy as that. But there is a saying, well actually I just made this up: It’s easy for us to gain friends but it would be a lot harder to keep them.
Another thing is… if you want to sell or buy something, you could use your network to find what you’re looking for, all you have to do is post your message and eventually that will become visible on their “wall” yup (wall) as Facebook call it.
If you want to exhibit something, an art, photo, videos. You finally have an audience! So keep on adding “friends”. The more the merrier.
Lastly, if you want to shout out or voice up something or anything, Social Networking is also a great medium to broadcast yourself at no cost which is clearly what I’m doing now.
That is humanity! Our way of communication is one of the major things that separates us from the animal Kingdom.
There are lots of benefit that we may possibly gain in Social Networking; these are just the obvious ones. Feel free to add what you think on the comments below.
Now let’s talk about the consequences:
Is it just benefits that we can gain in this thing called Social Networking? Or we may also reap some bad fruits in the middle of the farm.
My kid had been involved in forums, chat and other form of Social Networking which only occur virtually. Yes I admit he’s good in conversing to the people around his virtual world but the sad reality is that he’s become timid to approach or even talk to anyone in real existence.
Second thing is: This could also start a fight and ironically cause disconnection of relationship.
Why? Well since shout out can be seen by many people on your network, these posts could be viewed by your former classmates, officemates, church mates, gang, kin, clans, or ex girlfriends. It would really hurt your ego if a “friend” of yours would write something unconstructive about you or somebody opposed your points of view specially in an aggressive manner. And that destruction of ego would cause an atomic explosion inside your brain. Zombies will love it.
Third thing is: You could be stalked!… People will now know where’ve you been, what you’ve done and what you’re up to. Yes, you may be discreet in posting your errands but the sad truth is, your friends might tag you on your vacation pics together, your last night’s gimmick, activities or worst, an embarrassing picture that you intend not to expose.
Yeah I know there are options / settings in just tick of the boxes to avoid that, but somehow you still miss something or do a slight mistake, and that’s what I call “Social Netstalking Paranoia”. You will be officially paranoid.
Lastly, if you’re living in two different worlds, FORGET Social Networking! You know who you are; I bet I need not to elaborate on this.
In conclusion, Social Networking is such a great tool. Just like a sharp knife, you just have to know how to use it.
But beware; this tool is a great tool for destruction too.
