There was a time when not any average people can type, when Kilometrico and Bic ballpen are well exploited
and we need to type “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog” more than a hundred times a day to exercise our typing skills.
I remember when I attempted to apply as data encoder somewhere in Makati and failed for the reason that I can only make 50wpm and I needed to pull off at least 70wpm… come to think of it, I was one of the fastest in school back then.
Today, typing was extremely easy almost for any person on any works of life. Now, people can type as well as they can eat popcorn while watching movie.
It’s the breakthrough of computer and chatting that puts us on this kind of situation, thanks MIRC and ICQ!
Nowadays, even my 12 year old son can type faster than I am… and yes, even “Jejemons” can type even faster… and more!!!
This only proves that humans do evolved on whichever way he desires to be and Social Networking triggers his typing skill and turned out to be the master of communicating trough finger.
Now we can only see Typewriters in Government and Law offices, Junkshop, Old Bodega and Museum. But let us not forget that these machines has become a legacy to many of us. It has become the best and only tool to finish our thesis, to do forms and even Resume, Conforme’, CV which we used to call “Bio-Data” (Sounds futuristic eh?) during those good ol’ times.
We all admit that computers make it easy for us to do things and stuff, and can provide us tools which is not available in Typewriters, like spelling and grammar correction, etc… Yet still let us not forget that it took a part on what we are now, it also sets the standard on our keyboards’ letter positioning today, letter “R” is still on the Left side and “L” on the Right, no one even dare to separate the “A, S, D, F and Q, W, E, R, T, Y.
I admit I missed the pressure and feel of typing using my father’s good old “UNDERWOOD” not to mention that these machines, TYPE WRITERS to be particular, are the stars in the Award Winning Movie Schindler’s List and in reality saves lives of many during those time. Such an Oldskul Technology that has become so useful for a long period of time.
